The Cumberland North Yarmouth Lions Club accepts grant applications from community groups that align with our Core Charitable Causes. Our goal is to do the most good for the most people.

Eligibility Checklist
  • The grant requested must benefit the Cumberland / North Yarmouth Community

  • Potential grantees should be nonprofit organizations with programs addressing this goal

​​

  • The applicant must justify how the grant benefits local residents and/or fits within our core charitable causes*:

    • ​Health – Primarily vision issues but also diabetes, hearing, organ donation, etc.

    • Relieving hunger and homelessness

    • Engaging youth, seniors, and veterans

  • Organizations must submit an annual application letter (one-page) to be considered for funding, containing:

    • The organization's contact information and mailing address (where approved funds will be sent)

    • Information about its budget, mission, and goals

    • How many of our community members are assisted

    • A requested dollar amount

  • The application must be received by us no later than April 25th to be considered during our final annual Board of Directors meeting in May​

  • Mail the completed application letter to:​

  • EXCLUSIONS

    • Capital campaigns and endowments

    • Memberships, including association / chamber memberships

    • Organizations that illegally deny services to any individual

    • Organizations or programs that do not benefit the Cumberland / North Yarmouth community

    • Political causes, candidates, organizations or campaigns

    • Registration fees

*The grant program supports these causes and related events. Programs not aligning with the core charitable causes may be considered if sufficient evidence is provided to show how they strengthen our community and benefit residents.
Priority may be given to organizations holding a current tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), 501(c)(6) or 501(c)(19) of the Internal Revenue Code. Please list the number of your group’s employees and/or volunteers. Organizations must submit a copy of their current 990, 990-EZ, 990-N, or 990-PF if they are required to file these returns.

Next Steps

Requests are reviewed by our Board of Directors in May.

A member of our Board may contact you for additional information.

Grants approved generally range from $50 to $1000.

If an application is approved (in whole or in part), checks will be mailed by June 30th directly to the recipient organization’s address listed in the application letter.
